Is Socks
This is all new to me.I can't even post pictures to a friend.I am computer challenged. But I have been assured that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks and that even I can learn to blog.So here goes.
My aunt taught me to knit when I was a little girl. So I have been knitting off and on (mostly off)since I was small, but mostly simple things like hats, scarves, and even a sweater or two.Mind you simple patterns with no cables and certainly no double point needles. Right before Christmas last year for some reason unknown or understood by me,I got a yearning to learn to knit socks. Mind you,I haven't knitted anything for two years or so. I headed off to the nearest Hancock Fabrics and bought a skein of Magic Stripes. It came with a pattern for socks on the skein. Hancock's didn't carry double pointed needles in a size appropriate for socks. So I went to Michael's.They had one pair of needles in only one size and fortunately for me,it was the size three that I needed for these socks. So I am all set to go.But the pattern looked Greek to me.Sooo, I found what looked to be a simple pattern for a tube sock and off I went on my sock making. The sock was finished in short time. I tried it on. It fit like a tube sock. Baggy at the ankle and really nothing that I would ever wear. So I ripped it all out. Started another pattern. Didn't like my heal turn and ripped it all out. Finally, finished a sock that I thought I could wear in the privacy of my own home.lol So I made it a mate and started a new pair. I have finished the first of that set and have started on the mate.
Until I started my sock journey I had no idea what a big industry sock making is.Who Knew?? You can find sock patterns, sock yarn, lots of blogs and help. I joined a yahoo group. I have now joined a sock olympics. lol I have begun a small stash with the help of Knitpicks and elann. What fun.
The sock olympics is the reason I started this blog. It seems everyone has a blog and I don't want to be left out. So here goes. I make a vow to learn to post pictures soon. Will have to get my son to help with that.
